Engineering Iron Oxide Nanoparticles towards Clinical Applications Anna Roig Materials Science Institute of Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain Monday, October 27, 2014, in lecture hall MX F1 at 1:15 pm
Abstract: Iron oxide nanoparticles are becoming an important class of materials in nanomedicine. They can be used for imaging as contrast agents in MRI as well as for therapeutical purposes and are FDA approved. The talk will start with a brief introduction to iron oxide nanoparticles, a description of the characteristics that make them attractive in the health sector and some of their recently reported biomedical applications. It will then be followed by the workflow we have undertaken to validate in-house synthesized magnetic nanoparticles and nanocapsules to promote angiogenesis as a brain neurorepair therapy after stroke.(1,2)

The Joint European Magnetic Symposia will be held in Rhodes, Greece next week. Anna Roig will give an invited talk in Symposium 8 on Medical, Biomedical, Biomagnetic and Biotechnology applications.
The meeting took place in Bordeaux on the 2nd and 3rd of April 2013. It was the first opportunity that the participants could exchange information on their competences and running projects.
The conference was held in Sorrento, Italy, from 3rd to 7th March 2013. Each day started will a Plenary Lecture followed by 3 parallel symposia:
Symposium A: Biohybrids and biomaterials; Symposium B: Functional hybrid nanomaterials, nanocomposites and their applications; Symposium C: Functional porous materials.
Plenary speakers:
Takuzo Aida, University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan C. Jeffrey Brinker, University of New Mexico and Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM, USAPeter Fratzl, Max-Planck-Institut für Kolloid- und Grenzflächenforschung (MPIKG), Gölm, Germany Clément Sanchez, Collège de France, Paris, France Sir Fraser Stoddart, Nortwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA
Anna delivered an invited talk on Magnetized endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) as angiogenic activators in the Colloidal Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications VIII Symposium chaired by Prof. Wolfang Parak in San Francisco (2–7 Feb) during the 2013 BIOS – SPIE Photonic West conference.
Great success in the oral presentation entitled “Engineering iron oxide nanoparticles for theranostic (therapeutic and diagnosis) applications in nanomedicine”.
Anna Roig delivered this seminar in the framework of ATHENA SCHOOL for advanced modeling of magnetic oxides, SN Bose Institute – Kolkata (India), 9th-12th April 2012.
