Large participation of the N&N Group at the International Symposium on Bacterial Nanocellulose in Porto

On 3-4 October 2019, four members of the N&N group: Anna Roig, Anna Laromaine, Sole Roig and Irene Anton attended the  fourth International Symposium on Bacterial Nanocellulose in Porto (Portugal). This congress gathers international researchers to communicate and share the latest developments in this fast-moving and continually expanding field of Bacterial Nanocellulose. All the N&N attendees presented their work in oral presentations. Moreover, Irene Anton was awarded with the prize for the best oral sharp presentation of the symposium.
Well done!

Best POLYMAR2018 oral presentation award for Sole Roig!

From the 8th to the 12th of October 2018 Sole Roig, PhD candidate at the N&N group, participated in the 2nd Conference in Polymer Science (POLYMAR) dedicated to biopolymers and taking place in a cruise through the Aegean sea. Her presentation “Microstructuration and functionalization of bacterial cellulose” was awarded with the Best Oral Presentation by an early stage researcher price sponsored by Publishing MDPI, congratulations Sole!

“POLYMAR2018 was a very interesting congress with a new format I have never seen before. The industrial point of view of most of the talks offered me the possibility to learn new approaches that we can apply on our lab in order to make easier the commercialization of the materials we are investigating.”

High participation of the N&N group at the 3rd Scientific Meeting of PhD Students

November 7th and 8th:
ICMAB hosted the third edition of the Meeting of PhD students from the Barcelona Nanotechnology Cluster – Bellaterra (ICMAB, ICN2, IMB-CNM, UAB, ALBA). This event is intended at  promoting the networking between them in an academic and scientific environment. The PhD students from the N&N group participated largely with posters and oral contributions:

Posters:
Miquel Torras: Fast and simple microwave synthesis of functional multimaterial goldnanoparticles
Sole Roig: Engineering bacterial cellulose during the biosynthesis
Yajie Zhang: Multifunctional Platform of Nanocapsules as Drug Carrier for Angiogenic Therapies

Oral presentations:
Zhongrui Luo: Evaluation of the nano-bio interactions between Au-NPs and Caenorhabditis elegans
Zheng Ma: Understanding ferroelectricity in epsilon-Fe2O3 films
Irene Anton: Functionalized bacterial nanocellulose for epithelial regeneration

And… Irene was awarded with the second award for the best oral presentation!

Best Oral Presentation for Laura González at the 2nd Scientific Meeting of BNC-b Students

Winners: Daniel, Laura, Enelia and Florind
Laura González (ICMAB) has won the prize for the Best Oral Presentation at the 2nd Scientific Meeting of BNC-b Students (PhD meeting) for her talk “Evaluation of inorganic nanoparticles in the model organism C. elegans”.

The second prize for Oral Presentation has been for Daniel Grajales Garcia (ICN2) for his talk on “Bio-Hacking and Do-It-Yourself Biologist”. The two posters awards have been for Enelia Cristina (ICN2) (second prize) and Florind Merkoçi (ICN2) (first prize). The winners were determined through popular voting.

The aim of this conference is to give the opportunity to PhD, Master and Undergraduate students working in nanoscience at the UAB Campus to present their own scientific work in a 10-15 minutes presentation or in a poster (poster sessions). The meeting took place at the Facultat de Ciències i Biociències of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) on June 29th-30th.

Congratulations Laura!
