The 23rd of April is la Diada de Sant Jordi in Catalunya and it is celebration of culture and love which are represented by books and roses. Today at ICMAB we celebrated Sant Jordi with a book exchange activity.
Since Sant Jordi is linked to reading, here is our recommended read of the day: a enjoyable mini-review to gain insight aobut the huge promise of bacterial nanocellulose in biomedicine.
The N&N group wishes you all a happy Sant Jordi Day!
Today 20th December 2018 we made our small Xmas Celebration: after the weekly group meeting we have exchanged presents between all the members of the group in our first Secret Santa! We also ate some “neules i torrons” traditional local Christmas sweets!
We are very excited to announce that the N&N researcher Martí Gich, has been awarded with a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant (CoG) for his project entitled “Ferrites-by-design for Millimeter-wave and Terahertz Technologies”(FeMiT). Martí Gich will carry out his project in the period 2019-2024 with a total of nearly 2 M€ to cover the project costs.
All the N&N members are very enthusiastic about the project and wish Marti a lot of success, congratulations!
The N&N group wishes you all a happy Diwali!Today we celebrate a Hindu-originated festival also known as the festival of lights. This celebration lasts for five days in Hindu communities and clay lamps known as diyas are lit to signify the victory of good over evil. We learnt about this festivity thanks to Sumithra, a new PhD student at the N&N group coming from India. We are very pleased to belong to such an international research group!
14th December 2017
To celebrate Christmas, all the N&N members meet in Can Coll, a country house near ICMAB. We had a short walk around the Natural Parc of Collserola and then a traditional Catalan lunch in the restaurant.
All the N&N group wishes you merry Christmas and a happy new year!
On the 30th of May 2017, we got very good news: Jan has secured a Ph.D. position at the N&N group! Jan obtained a doctoral fellowship from the INPhINIT programpromoted by the La Caixa Foundation. The fellowship is awarded to 57 outstanding international students for Ph.D. studies in top Spanish research centres. He will do his Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Anna Roig and MartíGich. All the members of the group congratulated Jan and did a toast with cava for him.
Jan Grzelak says:
The project that I chose is ‘Mesoporous magnetic nanorods for theranostics’ offered by Anna Roig and Martí Gich.
I am extremely happy to continue doing research in the N&N group for the next 3 years!
Congratulations Jan!
This same day, Mulling visited us in ICMAB. Mulling is a former Ph.D. student of the N&N group. She was the first one to work with bacterial cellulose.
Today (January 27) is Chinese New Year’s Eve (除夕), and as we have many Chinese people at ICMAB, and in our group, we wanted to celebrate it!
Qianzhe, Ma, Yajie and Luo are very happy; it is a big feast in their country! But, unfortunately, they will have to work during the Chinese holidays…
Each year, in Chinese astrology, is associated with an animal sign. From tomorrow (January 28), Chinese New Year’s day (初一), it will be a Rooster year. There are 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac cycle, and the Rooster is the 10th of it, after Monkey and before Dog.
In addition, each year is not just associated with an animal sign, but also with one of the five following elements: Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire, or Earth. In this case, we will start a Fire Rooster year!
Are you a Rooster? You can check it out in this fantastic webpage, where you will also find more information about the Fire Rooster year.
This week we celebrated Christmas with all the ICMAB at La Masia Can Portell, in Collserola (on Wednesday) and with the NN Group (on Thursday’s Group Meeting).
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
See you all next year, with new and exciting science and activities!
Today, 11 February, is the first International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a day created by the United Nations to emphasise the importance of women in science and to rise the gender equality in the scientific world. The women and girls from the N&N Group have participated in the celebration of this day, as you can see in the picture (enlarge here).
