All N&N Group researchers working with bacterial cellulose attended the 4th EPNOE International Junior Scientists Meeting (3-4 February). Amanda and Sole contributed with oral presentations. Cristina presented a poster and won the Best Poster award.
Remei Escudero, former member of N&N Group and Bachelor Student in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the UAB, has won the 3rd prize of the Dresselhaus Awards, organized by the Catalan Society of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (SCN2). Remei defended her work by presenting a poster that was evaluated by a jury formed by PhD fellows. The event took place on 17 December 2019 and the results were announced in January 2020.
All the N&N researchers working with the model organism C.elegans attended the last 28-29 March 2019 the VII Spanish Worm Meeting (SWM). They were very active participants! One oral presentation was given by Zhongrui Luo (“Evaluation of the nano-bio interaction between superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles and Caenorhabditis elegans¨). Amanda Muñoz and Sumithra Srinivasan presented their work in a poster format. Good job!
From September 9th to 13th, the PhD student Irene Anton stayed in Maastricht (The Netherlands) in order to participate in the ESB Congress 2018. She shared her work with the poster “Bacterial Nanocellulose (BNC) and BNC-TiO2 nanocomposites as cell carriers”. The topic of the conference was “materials for life” and Irene got a very nice opportunity to catch up with the latest advances on her research field.
Jan Grzelak, PhD student at the N&N group, travelled to Madrid to attend the 1st Spanish Conference on Biomedical Applications of Nanomaterials (SBAN) held at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM). Jan presented the poster “Mesoporous silica nanorods as theranostic platforms”.
Yajie Zhang, PhD student from the N&N group, attended the 15TH EUROPEAN SYMPOSIUM ON CONTROLLED DRUG DELIVERY that took place in Egmond aan Zee, The Netherlands. He presented a poster entitled “Multifunctional PLGA Nanocapsules as Drug Carrier for Angiogenic Therapies”.
Anna Laromaine and Zhongrui Luo attended last week the VI Spanish Worm Meeting in Valencia (Spain), a biennial gathering of the scientific communitiy working with C. elegans. This meeting covers a wide range of topics, including development, neurobiology, aging and disease, metabolism and new technologies applied to C. elegans.
Anna gave the talk on “Evaluation of albumin pre-coated SPIONS in cell culture and C. elegans“ (Laura González-Moragas, Si-Ming Yu, Maria Milla, Anna Roig, Anna Laromaine) on Friday 10th March.
Luo presented the poster “Evaluation of the nano-bio interactions between Au-NPs and Caenorhabditiselegans“ (Laura González-Moragas, Zhongrui Luo, Anna Roig, Anna Laromaine). It was his first time in Valencia and he really enjoyed the meeting!
Today and tomorrow (November 21-22) we have at ICMAB the members of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the Severo-Ochoa program, formed by internationally highly recognised researchers.
For this reason, this morning the coordinators of each Research Line have presented the main highlights, objectives and future perspectives of each Research Line. In the afternoon, the SAB members, guided by a PhD Student, had the opportunity to learn about the on-going research of each Research Group, with the help of the dedicated posters.
Our group had four posters on show:
Bacterial cellulose, a biopolymer with a myriad of potential applications
Evaluating inorganic nanoparticles in vivo on Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans)
Nanomaterials designed for pro-angiogenic therapies aimed at neurorepair after a stroke
The NANOSELECT Annual Meeting in Sant Feliu de Guíxols has ended. The meeting has been full of talks about different topics, such as functional oxides, ferromagnetic materials, superconductors (YBCO and others), semiconductors for water splitting, Nanocosmos, alternatives of Li-ion batteries, and many other interesting topics. The meeting was held in Eden Roc, a nice hotel in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, between 8th and 19th June.
Here you can find the contributions of the N&N Group, Martí Gich giving the talk “Ferroelectric domains and polarization switching ine-Fe2O3“, and the poster “Magnetic properties above room temperature in magnetoelectric e-Fe2O3“, and Anna May with the poster ““Photocatalytic hybrid nanocomposites of bacterial cellulose and Au/TiO2 nanoparticles for hydrogen production“.
