The N&N group wishes you all a happy Diwali!Today we celebrate a Hindu-originated festival also known as the festival of lights. This celebration lasts for five days in Hindu communities and clay lamps known as diyas are lit to signify the victory of good over evil. We learnt about this festivity thanks to Sumithra, a new PhD student at the N&N group coming from India. We are very pleased to belong to such an international research group!
Yesterday (26th April 2017) two members of the N&N Group actively participated in a science outreach festival called 10alamenos9: Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Festival!
The aim of this event is to bring nanotechnology closer to society. It is addressed to people of all ages and educational backgrounds and takes place in different cities in Spain.
In Barcelona, Anna May participated in an interactive seminar that took place in the science museum CosmoCaixa. She showed some of the materials synthesized at ICMAB.
Together with Alex Argemí (ICN2) and Francesc Pérez-Murano (CNM), from the Barcelona Nanotechnology Cluster –Bellaterra (BNC-b), Anna Laromaine gave a talk on Nanomedicine in Casa de la Cultura de SantCugat. In the event, ESCIENCIA also participated with some demonstrative experiments.
Anna Laromaine gave a seminar yesterday April 5th at the Facultat de Ciències-UAB, as part of the activities organized during the Festival of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (10alamenos9), in which the ICMAB collaborated. The topic of the seminar was Nanomedicine, which, according to Anna, is “the use of the nanotechnology for medical applications”, such as diagnosis, medical therapies, drug delivery, tissue regeneration, and the understanding of cellular systems.
Other seminars during the festival included the following topics: Biosensors by Ma Isabel Pividori, Energy capture and thermoelectrics by Aitor Lopeandía (UAB), Nanoelectronics by Francesc Pérez-Murano (IMB-CNM), an Introduction to nanotechnology by Ma José Esplandiu (ICN2), and Nanotechnology and society by Jordi Pascual (UAB).
The N&N Group has collaborated in the first science outreach festival of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. This festival, held between April 4th-8th 2016 in different locations of the Spanish geography (Zaragoza, Donostia, Barcelona, and Campus UAB) is full of different activities: seminars, exhibitions, workshops, nanodebates and competitions.
Anna May and Pol Sallés participated in the workshop around “Nanomaterials at ICMAB“, in which different nanomaterials created by ICMAB were shown and the role of nanotechnology in our daily life products was discussed. The assistants were mainly students from the UAB (Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, etc.), but also high school students interested in pursuing a Nanoscience degree were present. Tomorrow, Tuesday 5th April, Anna Laromaine will give a talk on Nanomedicine (Sala d’Actes, Facultat de Ciències, 10.30 – 13 h) and the workshop will also be held at the C1 Hall of the Facultat de Ciències (13 – 15 h).
The program of the different activities held at Campus UAB can be found here.
