Congratulations Irene Anton, new ICMAB graduate!
On June 3, Irene Anton defended her doctoral thesis “Opportunities for bacterial nanocellulose in healthcare. Uses as a cell carrier, corneal bandage and tissue reinforcement”.
On June 3, Irene Anton defended her doctoral thesis “Opportunities for bacterial nanocellulose in healthcare. Uses as a cell carrier, corneal bandage and tissue reinforcement”.
The collaborative work between the N&N group and the Eye Group from the University of Tampere (Finland) has finally materialized in common publication merging biomaterials and stem cell expertise!
We are glad to share some good news to start the new academic year; after a long revision process, the paper “Bacterial Nanocellulose and Titania Hybrids: Cytocompatible and Cryopreservable Cell Carriers” has been accepted for publication.
The PhD fellow Irene Anton from the NN group participated in the TechTransferStories launched by the Technology Transfer unit of ICMAB. In this 20-minute interview, Irene explains her personal experience researching in collaboration with the private sector to find medical applications for the biopolymer bacterial nanocellulose. Do not miss it!
The science outreach activities of the NN group keep moving on! Next Wednesday 3rd of June at 12.00h you can spend a “virtual day” with the PhD fellow Irene Anton-Sales.
From the 20th to the 22nd of November 2018 the PhD fellow Irene Anton attended to the NanoBio&Med conference organized at the Parc Científic of de Barcelona. This multidisciplinary congress was very useful to catch up with the recent advances in the rapidly evolving field of nanobiotechnology. Irene got the opportunity to present her results regarding bacterial nanocellulose interactions with human cells with both a poster and a talk. Her poster entitled “Bacterial nanocellulose and bacterial nanocellulose nanocomposites as substrates for cell culture” was selected for the best poster award sponsored by the journal Biomolecules MDPI.
From September 9th to 13th, the PhD student Irene Anton stayed in Maastricht (The Netherlands) in order to participate in the ESB Congress 2018. She shared her work with the poster “Bacterial Nanocellulose (BNC) and BNC-TiO2 nanocomposites as cell carriers”. The topic of the conference was “materials for life” and Irene got a very nice opportunity to catch up with the latest advances on her research field.
Irene Anton, PhD student at the NN group, attended the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC 2018) organized by the International Council of Ophthalmology and held at La Fira de Barcelona (16-19 June 2018). In this huge congress, the latest advances in clinical practises and new technologies for eye care were presented. Irene also attended the 3D live surgery offered by the Barraquer Institute.
From the 3rd to the 8th of September of 2017 Irene Anton, a Ph.D. student from the N&N group, attended a big meeting of Colloids and Interfaces in Madrid (ECIS2017). The event was hosted by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Irene participated with two posters and was awarded with one of the two prizes sponsored by the journal Polymers.
Today during the Group Meeting we welcomed the 5 new Ph.D. students that will start their Ph.D. thesis in the N&N Group! We hope you enjoy your stay with us!
