Two recently published papers about Carlos’s previous work

Carlos Moya, a postdoc in the N&N group, had a good start into 2018 in terms of publications!

On January he was coauthor of the paperProbing the variability in oxidation states of magnetite nanoparticles by single-particle spectroscopy about his previous work at University of Barcelona. It was published on the Journal of Materials Chemistry.

Happy Chinese New Year!

The N&N group wishes you all a Happy Chinese New Year!
This new year officially begins on February 16th and is the year of the dog. Luo and Yajie from the N&N group travelled to China for the Spring Festival celebration. We hope you enjoy your time there! At ICMAB there is a big Chinese community and we also did a small Chinese New Year celebration here.

Anna Roig participated in a PhD thesis defense committee in Granada

Ana Isabel González Garnica, student at the department of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Granada presented the thesis “MATERIALES BIOINSPIRADOS BASADOS EN BACTERIAS. APLICACIONES BIOMÉDICAS”, supervised by Dr. José Manuel Domínguez Vera and Dra Natividad Gálvez Rodriguez. The presentation took place on January 12th 2018.

Anna Roig was part of the thesis defense comittee.

Christmas group celebration

14th December 2017
To celebrate Christmas, all the N&N members meet in Can Coll, a country house near ICMAB. We had a short walk around the Natural Parc of Collserola and then a traditional Catalan lunch in the restaurant.

All the N&N group wishes you merry Christmas and a happy new year!

High participation of the N&N group at the 3rd Scientific Meeting of PhD Students

November 7th and 8th:
ICMAB hosted the third edition of the Meeting of PhD students from the Barcelona Nanotechnology Cluster – Bellaterra (ICMAB, ICN2, IMB-CNM, UAB, ALBA). This event is intended at  promoting the networking between them in an academic and scientific environment. The PhD students from the N&N group participated largely with posters and oral contributions:

Posters:
Miquel Torras: Fast and simple microwave synthesis of functional multimaterial goldnanoparticles
Sole Roig: Engineering bacterial cellulose during the biosynthesis
Yajie Zhang: Multifunctional Platform of Nanocapsules as Drug Carrier for Angiogenic Therapies

Oral presentations:
Zhongrui Luo: Evaluation of the nano-bio interactions between Au-NPs and Caenorhabditis elegans
Zheng Ma: Understanding ferroelectricity in epsilon-Fe2O3 films
Irene Anton: Functionalized bacterial nanocellulose for epithelial regeneration

And… Irene was awarded with the second award for the best oral presentation!

Anna Roig invited at the XVII CONGRESO COLOMBIANO DE QUÍMICA

23rd-27th Octobre 2017

Anna Roig was invited to the XVII Congreso Colombiano de Química where she participated in two different ways: Anna gave and Invited talk entitled: “Inorganic Nanoparticles for Biomedical Uses; from Cradle to Grave” and she also delivered a lecture in the pre-congress course in the topic of “In-vivo Imaging Techniques: Materials Science and Nanotechnology Challenges”.

During her visit to Colombia, Anna also visited the University of Santo Tomás, where she presented the work of the N&N group in a talk called: “Bacterial Nanocellulose Functional Nanocomposites”

Anna Roig participates in the 11th Collaborative Day of Lyonbiopôle

Lyon 10th October.
Anna Roig participated in the 11th Collaborative Day of Lyonbiopôle organized by Lyonbiopôle, with the support of Biocat.

This 11th Collaborative Day where Anna participated aims at promoting R&D partnerships and catalyze the emergence of new tools for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. The day gives a framework to discuss the major challenges in the medical field, technological & scientific advances and to design partnerships and innovation projects to improve the management of diseases. This year more than 300 participants  were registered.

In the morning, thematic roundtables  took place, gathering around 20 persons each one from SMEs, research, industry, hospitals to brainstorm. The purpose of these is to support emergence of discussions and potential ideas of collaborations. A dedicated brainstorm methodology to stir the discussion is used. Anna Roig chaired the round table TR14: Use of nanoparticles in targeted therapies: what added value?

In the afternoon, blue sky meetings gave  the opportunity to 10 SMEs to present their innovative technology looking for strategic collaborations and 10 project leaders to present their R&D  project idea looking for partners.
